“I am absolutely humbled by this award named in honor of William B. Hoyt for his contributions and work in the environmental community”, said Senator Grisanti. I am also honored to be on share this award with a very impressive list of prestigious lawmakers like former Governors’ George Pataki and Eliot Spitzer, current Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Sam Hoyt from Western New York.”

Senator Grisanti is in his second year as a lawmaker in Albany and currently chairs the Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee. Senator Grisanti passed groundbreaking legislation in his committee to protect water resources, wildlife and habitat.

“To say you hit the ground running as the new Environmental Conservation Committee Chair in the state Senate is an understatement. We were impressed by how quickly you became a steadfast supporter of the Environmental protection fund, helping to maintain the fund in an otherwise challenging budget,” said Audubon Council of New York State in the award letter.

The last recipient from Western New York to receive this award was former New York State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt in 2001, son of the late William B. Hoyt from whom the award is named after.

“I am pleased that the Audobon  Society has chosen to honor Senator Grisanti with the William B. Hoyt Environmental Excellence award. As the chair of the Senate EnCon  Committee, Mark has been a tireless advocate for protecting the environment and our natural resources. My father would be pleased that another Western New Yorker has received this prestigious award,” said Sam Hoyt former award winner and New York State Assemblyman.
