Ritchie Applauds Authorization of St. Lawrence County Hydropower Contract

Will Help Support Economic Development, Job Growth in the North Country

State Senator Patty Ritchie is applauding Governor Cuomo’s authorization of a low-cost power supply contract that will help business owners cut down on expenses, create jobs and support economic growth in St. Lawrence County.

“The authorization of this contract is just one more step our state is taking to revitalize our economy and create jobs,” said Senator Ritchie.  “By providing low-cost power, we are giving employers the tools they need to prosper, grow and create much-needed employment for those looking for work.”

The contract between the New York Power Authority and the Massena Electric Department will make up to 20 megawatts of low-cost hydropower available to businesses and communities in St. Lawrence County, to fuel economic development in the area.

“I’d like to thank Governor Cuomo, NYPA President and CEO Quinones, the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency and the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency Local Development Corporation for their hard work and cooperation, which were instrumental in helping to make this project happen,” said Senator Ritchie.  “This affordable, clean energy will help to support the businesses that call St. Lawrence County ‘home’.”
