New York State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce that today the New York State Gaming Facility Location Board has announced its selection for the Catskills/Hudson Valley Region, and that the winning applicant is Montreign Resort and Casino located in the Town of Thompson in Sullivan County.

“There have been many false starts on the broken road leading to this moment.  For fifty years, the Sullivan County Catskills have sought gaming as a way to grow our tourism-based economy.   And now that moment is here, with this resort destination facility, which will drive investment and job creation, not only in Sullivan County, but also surrounding counties for generations to come.

This gaming facility will have a capital investment of $630 million, create thousands of jobs, and by 2019 provide $103 million in annual tax revenue for education, property tax relief, and aid to local governments.  I thank Governor Cuomo for his leadership in making this opportunity possible through the statewide referendum and his advocacy for Upstate Economic Development.  I also want to thank the Gaming Facility Location Board for remaining true to the spirit of the Upstate Gaming Economic Development Act by providing such a tremendous opportunity to historically economically disadvantaged communities.

With the beauty of our geography, four seasons of outdoor recreational opportunities, and now the approval of this destination resort, I firmly believe that the best days of the Catskills are yet to come,” said Senator Bonacic.

The selection made by the Gaming Facility Location Board now will be reviewed and finalized by the New York State Gaming Commission who will award the licenses.
