Every Hero Has A Story: Griffo announces Summer Reading Program for children

UTICA – With school nearly out for the summer, State Sen. Joseph Griffo is encouraging children to keep up their reading through the New York Senate’s 2015 Summer Reading Program.

As he has every year since being elected, Senator Griffo is again partnering with local libraries to offer children an amusing way to keep their mind focused on learning during the summer break. This year’s theme is “Every Hero Has A Story,” a message that is sure to teach children valuable life lessons.

“The summer months are a time for students to let loose and enjoy their break from school, but it is also important that we teach children to always view reading as a fun and educational way to spend their time,” said Griffo, R-Rome. “There are plenty of wonderful books out there – and the countless adventures found within their pages – just waiting to be discovered by eager children. I am glad to join our neighborhood libraries in motivating children to always find joy in learning.”

Children can register with an adult’s help at www.nyread.com, or at their local library. Each child will then keep either a handwritten or online log of the books they read. At the end of the program, Senator Griffo will send each student a special certificate congratulating them on their achievement.

The program is open to children of all ages, although highlighted material is best suited for students in grades fourth through sixth.

The Senate’s Summer Reading Program is being offered in conjunction with the New York State Library. For a list of local libraries, or to view activities, games and links that will keep children engaged and entertained this summer, visit www.summerreadingnys.org
