Murphy delivers early Christmas present to Brewster wrestling team
December 22, 2015
BREWSTER, NY - With Christmas less than one week away New York State Senator Terrence Murphy was on hand for Monday's wrestling match between the Brewster Bears and the Arlington Admirals in part to admire the newly installed mats in the Brewster wrestling room. The freshman Senator delivered a $25,000 grant to the Brewster School District which helped pay for the purchase and installation of the mats.
"I am proud to have been able to deliver this important grant to the Brewster School District," Murphy said. "These mats will help Brewster expand its wrestling program giving kids another athletic avenue to pursue."
Brewster Athletic Director Dean Berardo said, "Upgrading this facility not only repurposes this space but, more importantly, it helps motivate the kids."
Brewster Wrestling Coach Tom Looby said, "Before this grant we were not using the entire room because we didn't have the wall to wall matting. This setup now lets have the space to wrestle live, host scrimmages and practice more efficiently."
On December 30th Brewster will host the 2015 JV Invitational. With the upgrades to the wrestling room the tournament will be expanded with athletes from across the Hudson Valley enjoying the new equipment
