State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $30,000 to support athletic programs in the Heuvelton Central School District, including funding to purchase new uniforms for the Heuvelton Lady Bulldogs basketball team in honor of the team’s winning the New York State Girls Class D Championship earlier this year.

A graduate of Heuvelton High School, Senator Ritchie made the announcement Saturday evening, when the members of the Lady Bulldogs squad were inducted into the district’s Athletic Hall of Fame.  With the purchase of new uniforms, members of the team will be able to keep their old jerseys as a memento from their championship win.

“The Lady Bulldogs’ capture of the state title was a proud moment not only for the team and its coaches, but also for our entire community,” said Senator Ritchie.

“I’m pleased to be able to provide this funding, which will support the district’s athletic programs, as well as allow the Lady Bulldogs to keep their state championship uniforms.  It’s my hope, that when they look at these jerseys, team members will not only be reminded of their past achievements, but also that with dedication and hard work, they have the ability to do anything they set their minds to.”

In addition to being used for the purchase of new uniforms for the Lady Bulldogs, funding will also be used for the following:

·         New warm-ups and basketballs for the girls basketball team;

·         New warm-ups, uniforms and basketballs for the boys basketball team;

·         A new scoreboard and backlighting; and

·         New uniforms for the district’s cheerleading squad
