Mark Your Calendar: Free Waste Tire Drop Off September 19th

Patty Ritchie

September 10, 2015

State Senator Patty Ritchie is asking North Country residents to mark their calendars for two free waste tire drop off events taking place on September 19th in St. Lawrence County.

“Waste tires aren’t just eyesores, they also are a major threat to public health, as they can act as breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry deadly diseases like West Nile and EEE,” said Senator Ritchie.

“My waste tire drop offs have been successful in helping to eliminate nearly 70 tons of tires throughout Central and Northern New York and I’m hopeful that we can add to that total through these two free events on September 19th.”

Hosted in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Solid Waste Department, the waste tire drop off events will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the following locations:

·         Waddington Town Garage, located at 48 Maple Street

·         Hammond Town Garage, located at 1876 County Route 6 (Black Lake Road)

Residents may dispose of up to eight tires, with the usual fee for drop off being waived.  Please note that no rims or tractor tires will be accepted.

Made possible by special funding secured by Senator Ritchie, free disposal events are part of a continuing effort to not only clean up our region, but also to stop the spread of mosquito borne diseases like EEE and West Nile, as it’s estimated that one single waste tire can act as breeding ground for one million  mosquitoes. In recent years, residents in Central and Northern New York have eliminated nearly 40,000 waste tires through Senator Ritchie’s free drop off events.
