State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to be used for upgrades at Phoenix Memorial Park.

“When we invest in maintaining and improving public spaces like Phoenix Memorial Park, we’re investing in the future of our local communities,” said Senator Ritchie.

“This funding will go a long way towards helping to ensure that residents continue to have access to quality recreational opportunities, helping them to enjoy the outdoors, get active and become more involved in their community.”

One of several parks in the village, Phoenix Memorial Park features fields and courts for recreational activities, including team sports such as softball, baseball, volleyball, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard and tennis.

Funding secured by Senator Ritchie will help to renovate a building on the property and potentially add locker rooms and restrooms to the structure.  Currently, visitors to the park use the restrooms and locker rooms at a nearby school.

In addition to building renovations, the village has potential plans to add a small playground for families to the park.

“Here in Phoenix, we’re constantly working to create new opportunities for residents to enjoy life in Central New York,” said Village Mayor Ryan Wood.

“We would like to thank Senator Ritchie for being a partner in that effort and for this most recent show of support, which will be a tremendous help to the Village as we work to upgrade Phoenix Memorial Park."

Funding secured by Senator Ritchie builds upon her past efforts to improve recreational opportunities in Oswego County.  Last year, she secured $50,000 to help the City of Fulton construct a new playground and build a kayak launch at the city’s Recreation Park.

Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
