Ritchie Delivers for Depauville Free Library

Views Improvements Funded With Senate Grant

State Senator Patty Ritchie joined in celebrating the new children’s area and other improvements at the Depauville Free Library.  She helped fund the upgrades with a special grant from the New York State Senate.

“As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries, I’ve made it a priority help our local libraries. The Depauville Free Library plays an important role for families and children throughout our community,” said Senator Ritchie. “That’s why I helped secure a special $50,000 grant to help the Town of Clayton fund improvements to the Depauville Free Library and the town arena.”

In 2013-14, the State Legislature appropriated $14 million for capital funding to pay 75 percent of the costs of capital projects that were awarded to 170 libraries. The Depauville Free Library received $108,441 to construct an addition to provide a handicap accessible entrance and bathroom, as well as a new space for children.

“Our libraries do a lot more than just provide books today. They help children and families obtain access to technology, culture, entertainment and information they need,” Senator Ritchie said.  “There are more than 7,000 public libraries in New York State, including more than 50 libraries in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties, which I represent.”
