Continues Week of Efforts Aimed at Highlighting Post

Just one day before a “listening session” on proposed troop reductions, State Senator Patty Ritchie and her colleagues are calling on Congress to stand up and protect Fort Drum.

Senator Ritchie and members of the Senate Majority sent a letter today to members to the state’s Congressional delegation to voice support for the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum and express concerns about the significant economic impact potential troop reductions would have on the North Country and the state as a whole.

“I’m pleased to see that my colleagues are stepping up joining me in the fight to protect the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum and the economic benefits the post provides,” said Senator Ritchie.

“Reductions at Fort Drum would be devastating to both our region and the state.  It’s time for all of New York’s lawmakers to let their voices be heard make sure that the men and women of Fort Drum, as well the communities that rely on the post remain a top priority.”

Just this week, Senator Ritchie hosted “10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day” at the State Capitol to help raise awareness of the post’s importance and celebrate the 10th Mountain Division’s contributions to the North Country region, the state and our nation.

During the day-long event, Resolutions were passed unanimously by both the Senate and Assembly in support of Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division.  In addition to the letter, the Senate also sent its Resoltuion to New York’s Congressional delegation. A copy of the letter can be viewed here.
