Senator Serrano Participates In The Brennan Center Report On Campaign Finance Reform

Senator Serrano participated in a very important report conducted by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law about small donor public financing in elections. The report entitled "Breaking Down Barriers: The Faces of Small Donor Public Financing" sheds light on the issue of mega-donors having an unfair level of influence on American elections and ways to negate this trend. This report features a diverse set of elected officials from across the country, including Senator Serrano, explaining how public financing systems provide a pathway toward a more equal and participatory democracy. By implementing some of the major findings from this report we will make the small-donor financing process more potent in the future.

"Small donor financing gives members of the public the ability to feel much more vested in the elections process and feel that they are actually helping to determine who the next wave of leadership will be in the community. This system allows people to feel that they're not powerless against the high money interest, but that they too, through contributions via the matching funds program, can be very significant in supporting candidates who they believe represent the issues that they care about and I think that's what is important."
