In an effort to promote leadership among local youth, State Senator Patty Ritchie has secured $1,500 in special funding to help support the Heuvelton Leos Club.

“When we take steps today to empower our youth, we’re actually creating a better tomorrow for everyone, as these individuals are the people who will be responsible for leading our communities in the future,” said Senator Ritchie.

“I’ve seen firsthand how the Heuvelton Leos are making a difference locally, and I’m pleased to be able to provide them with this funding, which will help them continue their good work.”

“Here in the Heuvelton Central School District, we make it a priority to teach all students not only about the importance of being a leader, but also about how critical it is to give back to their community,” said Heuvelton Central School District Superintendent Susan Todd.

“We would like to thank Senator Ritchie for this funding, which will help support the members of our Leos Club and encourage the growth of more leaders here in the North Country.”

Established more than 10 years ago, the Heuvelton Leos Club is made up of students in grades five through twelve who serve their community through various projects, volunteer efforts and other activities.

Funding secured for the Heuvelton Leos Club continues Senator Ritchie’s efforts to promote leadership in the region she represents. In recent months, she has announced funding to support leadership initiatives throughout Central and Northern New York, including Massena Central High School’s “Link Crew” program.
