RITCHIE: $200,000 IN FUNDING TO SUPPORT ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT, SAVE TAXPAYER DOLLARS

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $200,000 in funding to help the St. Lawrence County Highway Department cover the cost of three new pieces of equipment key to their operation, an investment that will help protect public health and safety, as well as taxpayer wallets.

“The work done by the St. Lawrence County Highway Department is vitally important—especially during the winter months—to keeping our roads in good condition so those who travel them stay safe,” said Senator Ritchie.

“It’s investments like this that make it easier for local governments to balance budgets, and in turn, save taxpayer dollars.  I’m pleased to provide this funding, which has helped them purchase the equipment they need to do their job safely and more efficiently.”

Funding delivered by Senator Ritchie has been used to purchase a pay loader that will be used for various highway and bridge projects, as well as two wood chippers that will be used for roadside maintenance.

“The St. Lawrence County Highway Department works every day to oversee hundreds of miles of roadway, and hundreds of bridges across the North Country,” said Highway Superintendent Donald Chambers.

“This is no easy feat, and we thank Senator Ritchie for supporting the work we do to make sure our county’s transportation network is safe for residents and those who might be passing through.”

Recently, Senator Ritchie visited the St. Lawrence County Highway Department Maintenance Shop in Canton to view the new equipment and discuss local, as well as statewide, transportation issues.
