Photo: Senator Kathy Marchione Proudly Honors Carlo Valenti, A Hero of the Battle of Iwo Jima

Albany, NY – Senator Kathy Marchione (R,C,I,Reform-Halfmoon), Member of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, recently honored heroes of the Battle of Iwo Jima during Senate session. Pictured are Troy resident Carlo Valenti, a veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima (left), and New York State Senator Kathy Marchione (right). Also pictured are members of Mr. Valenti’s family. Mr. Valenti served with Company B, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division. Mr. Valenti was an accomplished boxer in the Marine Corps, earning the nickname “Duke.” He landed on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945, D-Day, at 11 a.m. In the final days of the Iwo Jima campaign, Mr. Valenti was severely wounded by Japanese machine gun fire, which resulted in a month’s long period of convalescence and physical therapy. Senator Marchione presented Mr. Valenti a Senate Resolution honoring his courageous service during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
