Senator Murphy announces $200,000 grant to construct and rehabilitate homes in Putnam County

Albany, NY - Senator Terrence Murphy is pleased to announce that a $200,000 grant has been awarded to the Putnam County Housing Corporation to assist with the home improvement of approximately 10 units located on scattered sites in the area.
The funding is awarded through the New York State Homes and Community Renewal Affordable Home Ownership Development Program, which has already awarded nearly $192 million to create or improve more than 9,700 homes across the state. Governor Andrew Cuomo recently announced $7.4 million had been awarded to construct, rehabilitate and improve the homes of 271 income-eligible families across New York.
"Every New Yorker should have access to affordable, safe, energy-efficient housing," said Senator Murphy. "Through this program homeowners will be able to preserve or improve their residences, which will add value to their neighborhoods and ensure our communities continue to flourish."
Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said. "We are grateful to Senator Murphy for his leadership in accessing this award for our Putnam community. These grants will help homeowners restore homes that otherwise would fall into disrepair. Examples of the rehabilitation include wells, septic systems and roofs. These are repairs that not only add to the value of the neighborhood but enhances the health of the people in our community and contribute to a better quality of life for our citizens."

These grants will allow owners to make improvements to existing single or multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives; acquire and rehabilitate owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives; and construct new owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives including dilapidated and manufactured homes.
The Affordable Home Ownership Development Program provides up to $40,000 per home to eligible municipalities, municipal housing authorities, and other not-for-profit and charitable organizations that develop affordable housing or assist homeowners in funding necessary repairs.
