Kaminsky Secures Grant For Oceanside Fire Department

(Oceanside, New York) -  Senator Todd Kaminsky announced that he secured a $60,000 grant for the Oceanside Fire Department, which enabled them to purchase thermal imaging cameras. Thermal imaging cameras allow firefighters to better assess dangerous situations while also identifying those in danger through smoke, darkness or heat-permeable barriers.

“The Oceanside Fire Department works tirelessly to protect and secure its community,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky. “I am proud to be able to help them ensure they have the tools they need to fulfill their mission and do so safely, and am humbled to be able to support our first responders.”

“Thermal imaging cameras are one of the greatest advancements in the way we as firefighters operate in smoke filled environments. Having this equipment greatly improves the chances of a survival for victims trapped in a fire as well as the safety of our firefighters. Thanks to Senator Kaminsky for this grant to provide every front line apparatus with this vital piece of equipment,” said Chief Kevin M. Klein, Oceanside Fire Department.

The Oceanside Fire Department (O.F.D.) consists of 230 members protecting the residents of Oceanside, New York and the surrounding communities. In 2017, the O.F.D. responded to over 1800 runs. The Department is led by Chief of Department Kevin M. Klein and Assistant Chiefs David P. R. Bettes, Robert C. Sutton Jr., and Joseph Caroccia. The department is made up of Salamander Hook Ladder and Bucket Co. #1, Columbia Engine Co. #1, Oceanside Hose Co. #1, South Side Hose Co. #2, Terrace Hose Co. #3 and the E.M.S. Squad.
