TAPPAN, NY – Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) wanted to make sure Rockland County veterans were remembered this Valentine's Day. Sen. Carlucci held his annual Valentines for Vets ceremony on Wednesday at William O. Schaefer Elementary School in Tappan. Students packed their auditorium to sing patriotic songs, and then with the help of Sen. Carlucci handed out valentines to at least 15 area veterans in attendance.

"Many veterans are living by themselves and making sure they are remembered on Valentine's Day and every day is important because they served our country.  It is wonderful to see young children showing their appreciation. The students take a lot of care in making these valentines special, and the reaction from veterans getting them is really priceless," said Sen. Carlucci.

This year 26 schools in Westchester and Rockland Counties made more than 2,000 valentines. Some were distributed at Wednesday assembly, while others were distributed by area veteran's organizations.
