Senator Elaine Phillips announced she has secured a $200,000 State and Municipal Facilities Program Grant for the Manhasset Union Free School District.  The funding will be used for security and safety upgrades throughout the district.

“Earlier this year I reached out to school Superintendents in my district, to learn first-hand what their needs are as we work to ensure New York schools remain safe locations for our children to receive the best education and opportunities possible.  Access to funding for increased safety and security upgrades is one of their top priorities,” said Senator Phillips. “It was a pleasure to work with Dr. Butera, Superintendent of Manhasset to identify their needs for security vestibules and additional security measures.”

“The funding provided by Senator Phillips will allow us to upgrade a number of our physical security needs including the installation of security vestibules, as well as strobe lights and door ajar alert systems. We are grateful and appreciative for all that Senator Phillips has done for our school district and the children of Manhasset.”

Senator Phillips introduced legislation, S.7846, that would require the Smart School Review Board to meet monthly, notify school districts in a timely matter and provide much needed safety and security funding to districts within 30 days when approved.  The measure passed the State Senate and was stalled in the Assembly.
