At a recent visit to the Dobisky Visitor’s Center in Ogdensburg, State Senator Patty Ritchie presented the city’s Parks and Recreation Department with the New York State Senate “Empire Award” for its efforts to enhance the quality of life in the local community.

For the last 30 years, the City of Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department has helped grow the city through the addition of facilities such as the Dobisky Visitor’s Center, the St. Lawrence River Boardwalk and the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center. In addition, its creation of various parks, trails, athletic fields and recreational facilities allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy their favorite activities.

Senator Ritchie hosts her annual St. Lawrence County Senior Health and Wellness Fair at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center and earlier this year, the Dobisky Visitor’s Center hosted the Senator's special “Rock into Summer” event to help promote summertime reading for young students.

“The City of Ogdensburg’s Parks and Recreation Department is a shining example of how a city department can make a real impact in the community.  Through its wonderful facilities and activities, the department truly makes a positive impact on the quality of life for people living in Ogdensburg,” Senator Ritchie said. “The entire staff here works so hard to make the city a special place and I am proud to be able to recognize them all with this award.”

In addition to awarding the entire department with the “Empire Award”, Senator Ritchie also presented City of Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Director Matthew Curatolo with the New York State Senate Commendation Award for going above and beyond in his efforts to ensure the department is providing services for the entire community.

The New York State Senate Empire Award recognizes organizations demonstrating leadership and contributions to their community.

In addition, the New York State Senate Commendation Award recognizes exceptional people who have made a lasting contribution to their community. Award recipients devote their personal time, energy, creativity and expertise to the betterment of others, as well as enrich the social, health and educational well-being of their fellow citizens.
