State Senator Patty Ritchie is inviting children and families to attend ‘Rock’ into Summer, a special, free event she is hosting on Monday, July 9th with the Ogdensburg Public Library.  The event—which is open to children aged 4-12 accompanied by an someone 14 and older—helps encourage young people to get outside and get active, as well as to read throughout the summer months.

'Rock’ into Summer will feature a scavenger hunt for special, painted rocks—decorated by Ogdensburg City School District Students—that can be turned in for prizes.  Children can also take part in activities such as story time and crafts provided by the Ogdensburg Public Library, as well as enjoy free snacks offered by Senator Ritchie, including cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones.

In addition, those attending the event will have the opportunity to sign up for Senator Ritchie’s Summer Reading Program, “Libraries Rock”. The program allows children to track the books they read in the coming months and at the end of the summer, each participant will receive a special certificate from Senator Ritchie. Those unable to attend the July 9th event can sign up for the Summer Reading Program on Senator Ritchie’s website, www.ritchie.nysenate.gov.

“Summer is here, and that means fun with family and friends for children in our region,” said Senator Ritchie. “I am hopeful local young people will take part in this event, which not only provides them an opportunity to get active, but also to participate in activities offered by the Ogdensburg Public Library and be inspired to read more throughout the summer months.”

The event will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Dobisky Visitor’s Center Patio (100 Riverside Avenue, Ogdensburg, NY 13669).  You can pre-register your children by clicking here.
