Senator Felder Endorses Students for Presidential Scholars Program

Every year, the Presidential Scholars Program honors our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Students whose rigorous scholarship has resulted in exceptional academic achievement and strength of character, as well.

This year Senator Felder has nominated two outstanding Senate District 17 students, Fawzia Khan and Muhammad Ahsan. “It is an honor to nominate these students and recognize their considerable accomplishments. Their success is the result of hard work, commitment and integrity. They have risen to the occasion of life’s challenges so effectively and are full of bright hope for the future,” said Senator Felder.

Close to 4,000 culturally diverse students attend Franklin D. Roosevelt High School and Principal Melanie Katz takes seriously her charge to encourage every student’s personal best. “Our students have big dreams and the expectation that we will help them attain their goals. Our work is to support them academically, socially, emotionally, in every way we can. These students are highly motivated, often leaving home before 6 am to get to school on time, and arrive every day appreciative of the opportunity to learn and grow. They have every reason to be excited for their future,” expressed Principal Katz.

NYS Chancellor of Education, MaryEllen Elia, will advance 20 High School Seniors from across New York State to the Presidential Scholar’s Program in Washington D.C. “Educating our children is the most important job we have. I am proud of all the excellent schools and hardworking students in Senate District 17 and I am very pleased to recognize Muhammad and Fawzia. Connecting and fostering relationships among our nation’s most talented students is another important way to bolster and support our promising youth in their efforts to attain the American dream,” concluded Senator Felder.
