Senator Andrew Lanza is proud to announce that two Staten Islanders have been selected as the recipients of the Senator John J. Marchi Memorial Athletic Scholarship. Each year the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators awards two New York State students with this scholarship. Students from across New York State submit applications that must demonstrate exceptional academic results and extracurricular success.

Senator Lanza, a member of the New York Conference of Italian-American Legislators, nominated Mia Cutrona and Jason Carretta for this years awards. Incredibly, the State committee that reviews all submissions selected two Staten Islanders for the 2019 scholarship.

Senator Andrew Lanza said, “Mia and Jason are incredible student athletes.  I am proud to have nominated them for the Senator John J. Marchi Memorial Athletic Scholarship and was thrilled to learn that the NY Conference of Italian-American Legislators recognized that these two students have set themselves apart from applicants from across the state. As Mia and Jason begin their college career, I know they will continue to bring pride to their families and Staten Island.”

Mia and Jason each received a $3,500 scholarship for their freshman year in college. Mia, a graduate of Susan Wagner High School, will begin her studies this week at Binghamton University. Jason, a graduate of Tottenville High School, will begin his studies this week at Penn State University.
