Senator David Carlucci

(New City, NY) -- Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) continues to call Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan, forcing New Yokers to replace their license plates after 10 years “ridiculous” and “unnecessary.”

Carlucci and Senator James Skoufis have introduced new legislation (S.6667/A.8553) to reverse the Governor’s $25 fee to replace older plates. To garner support from New Yorkers for the bill, Carlucci has started a petition online titled, “No License Plate Replacement Fee!.”

The petition pokes fun at the Governor’s license plate contest, with the Senator’s own version of a State plate, showcasing the Tappan Zee Bridge with the tongue and cheek message, “It Will Always Be The Tappan Zee.”

Carlucci weighed in on the Governor’s recent comments, which backed away from making 3 million New Yorkers replace their plates if there was an inspection process or if the plates are cleared by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Senator David Carlucci said, “We cannot have 3 million people flooding our DMVs, which already have astronomically long wait times. The Governor’s policy will subject millions of New Yorkers to an unnecessary and burdensome cash grab that he can stop now.”

Carlucci’s bill to reverse the State Department of Motor Vehicles’ new policy was introduced last month.
