Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8) was honored today by the New York State Council of Veterans’ Organizations (NYSCVO) at the State Capitol for his long-standing work and tireless advocacy on behalf of veterans and their families. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs, Senator Brooks is himself a veteran and considers his duty to veterans issues and military affairs a sacred trust.
“The New York State Council of Veterans Organizations is grateful for Senator Brooks’ leadership in sponsoring the budget appropriations for the Joseph P. Dwyer Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program, Veterans of Foreign War Veteran Services Officers (VSOs), and the New York State Defenders Association’s Veterans Defense Program (VDP),” says Thomas DeMeo, President NYS Council of Veterans Organizations. “We salute you for your great work on behalf of veterans. Thanks to you, thousands of veterans will receive substantial assistance, peer-to-peer mentoring, consultations, and expert referrals.”
“It is a great honor to be recognized by these organizations of people who live and work in service to others but let’s make no mistake, the real heroes are the men and women of this country who have chosen to put on a uniform in defense of our great nation,” Says Senator Brooks. “They and those who dedicate their lives to support them in their hour of need deserve our recognition.”
