Ortt Helps Pass Permanent Big Game Rifle Bill

Robert G. Ortt

June 18, 2019

On Monday, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) and his colleagues passed Senate Bill 1930, which would permanently authorize big game rifle hunting in Orleans County. Previously, the Orleans County Legislature would have to request for big game rifle hunting through state legislation, which would require authorization from the State Legislature and Gov. Cuomo. In 2017, Sen. Ortt passed a law temporarily authorizing big game rifle hunting thru October 1, 2019.

“I was proud to sponsor this bill and assist in permanently extending big game rifle hunting for the sportsmen of Orleans County,” said Sen Ortt. “For many, hunting is not only a way to feed a family, but it is also an important way to connect generations and teach our youth about nature and the value of life. No longer will the prospect of big game rifle hunting in Orleans County hang in the balance, and the hunters of our county can rest assured that their love of rifle hunting is protected.

The bill will now move to Gov. Cuomo for his signature.
