Senator Carlucci Announces 2020 Italian American Scholarships For High School Seniors & College Students

(Albany, NY) - Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting student applications for academic and athletic college scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year.

The four scholarships will be for $4,000 each and are available to residents of NYS that are current college students or high school seniors entering college.

Senator Carlucci said, "In New York State, we have taken action to lead the nation in college affordability by implementing the The Excelsior Scholarship. Now, hardworking families and individuals who may not be able to afford higher education, can make this a reality. Still, private and out of state colleges are increasing tuition rates, which is why I work diligently to promote college scholarship opportunities and connect area students with resources. I encourage students in Rockland and Westchester Counties to take advantage of this opportunity."

Students applying for the Academic Scholarship will be judged on grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education degree, involvement in the local community, and individual financial need.

Students applying for the Athletic Scholarship will be judged on athletic involvement, achievements, and interest in continuing to pursue athletics in college.

Applicants need not be of Italian-American heritage to apply.

Applications are due on March 16, 2020.

Winners will receive their awards at this year's Italian American Day on May 18, 2020, in Albany.

The applications are available above for download, or you can request a copy from Senator Carlucci's offices by emailing  carlucci@nysenate.gov or you can visit the Rockland or Westchester offices between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a hard copy.
