Senator Mattera Joins Salvation Army for Family Fun Day To Celebrate The Backpack Drive Success

SENATOR MATTERA JOINS SALVATION ARMY TO COLLECT AND DISTRIBUTE BACKPACKS TO STUDENTS

Smithtown, NY – Throughout the month of August, Senator Mario R. Mattera (2nd Senate District) and The Salvation Army of East Northport joined together to collect back-to-school supplies for area students.  In total, the effort resulted in 200 backpacks that were filled with supplies to help the children have a successful school year.

In celebration and acknowledgement of the success, there will be a family event on Sunday, September 26th at 2:00 pm at The Salvation Army located at 319 Clay Pitts Rd. in East Northport.  The event will include music, food and family fun.

“It is truly a privilege to partner with The Salvation Army to help school-aged children in our area,” said Senator Mattera.  “My office is happy to join with a purposeful, passionate group to ensure that the children of the region have the resources they need to succeed in the upcoming school year.”

The school supplies collected through local donations included backpacks, binders, folders, notebooks, index cards, pens, pencils, glue sticks, rulers, pencils, pencil cases, crayons, highlighters, markers, and erasers.

The Salvation Army in East Northport prioritizes having a positive impact on its community through education and service; offering numerous services and events to better our communities financially, educationally, and physically.  In addition to the school supply drive, the Salvation Army supports sports programs, educational programs and recreational camps.
