State Senator Patty Ritchie joined New York Power Authority (NYPA) President and CEO Gil Quiniones and NYPA officials, as well as area leaders Friday to cut the ribbon on improvements at Massena Intake Park, a local recreational destination associated with NYPA’s St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project on the St. Lawrence River.

The more than $3 million in upgrades at the park include an expansion of public boat launches from four to eight, a new dock and room for seasonal boat parking and the creation of two new large picnic pavilions, complete with restrooms, parking and handicapped accessibility features.

“The St. Lawrence River is a world-class waterway that offers endless opportunities for boating, angling and other recreational activities,” said Senator Patty Ritchie.

“These improvements at the Massena Intake Park will not only help local residents more easily enjoy the river, they also will help to attract more visitors to our region. I am grateful for the partnership between NYPA and the local community that made this important project possible and look forward to seeing the positive impact it has on the North Country.”

Work on the upgrades began in 2019 and was the result of NYPA’s 10-year review of the 2003 Relicensing Agreement for the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project. Owned and operated by NYPA, the organization funded renovations at the park that were officially unveiled at Friday’s ribbon cutting.
