Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) announced that Ward Lumber is one of the first 100 businesses added to New York State’s Historic Business Preservation Registry. The online registry, which officially launched today, was established to honor and promote New York businesses that have operated for at least 50 years and made significant contributions to their communities' history.

Ward Lumber’s history dates back to 1890, when Harvey M. Ward began his forest products industry in the AuSable Valley. In the 132 years since it started, Ward Lumber has grown from a family-owned enterprise to one that is now co-owned by its workers and has become a cornerstone of its communities. In nominating Ward Lumber for the registry, Stec noted not just the length of time the business has been running, but its history of volunteerism and contributions to the Towns of Jay and Malone.

“I’m proud to announce that Ward Lumber is one of the first businesses added to New York State’s Historic Business Preservation Registry,” Stec said. “For over 130 years, the company has been an important part of our region. From its quality products and being a source of good-paying jobs, to its efforts in improving the quality of life through its many partnerships with local schools and the communities-at-large, Ward Lumber is a business we can be proud of.

“It was a privilege to nominate Ward Lumber for the Historic Business Preservation Registry and I’d like to congratulate it on being one of the first businesses selected,” he added.
