Stec Joins Senate, Assembly Colleagues and Law Enforcement at Press Conference to Fix Bail Reform

Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today joined his Senate and Assembly Republican colleagues, along with law enforcement officials and prosecutors at a press conference calling for substantive fixes to bail reform. With a recent Siena poll showing an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers support new measures to provide judges and law enforcement with further discretion, Stec urged Governor Hochul and the Legislature to make these desperately needed fixes to bail reform part of the impending state budget.

“It’s clear that bail reform just isn’t working and according to the new Siena Poll, 82 percent of New Yorkers support fixing these laws,” said Stec. “There’s been a disturbing rise in violent crime since bail reform took effect and we must take action.

“I was proud to stand with my colleagues and law enforcement officials in calling on the governor and Legislature to address bail reform changes in this year’s state budget,” he added. “We must provide our police and judges with the resources and discretion they need to put violent criminals in jail and keep our communities safe.”
