Senator Tedisco appointed to key committees for Saratoga County, Niskayuna & City of Schenectady Senate District
(Albany, NY) - Senator Jim Tedisco today took the oath of office to begin his 4th term in the New York State Senate, representing the new 44th Senate District, which includes all of Saratoga County, Niskayuna and the City of Schenectady.
Tedisco was appointed today by Senate Minority Leader Robert G. Ortt as Ranking Member of the Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee and Ranking Member of the Education Committee.
Senator Tedisco also was appointed as a member of the Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation Committee, Banks Committee, Libraries Committee and New York City Education Committee.
“The 44th Senate District is home to the historic Saratoga Race Course, which is one of the premier tourism destinations in the world of sports, as well as the Saratoga Casino and Hotel and Rivers Casino Resort in Schenectady. I requested to be Ranking Member on the Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee and I want to thank Leader Ortt for appointing me to this leadership position to help provide oversight of the industry that is a major economic driver in Saratoga and Schenectady Counties,” said Senator Jim Tedisco.
“I’m also looking forward to continuing to be a very strong voice for students, parents and educators and fight for our schools as Ranking Member of the Education Committee,” said Tedisco, who served for 10 years as a special education teacher, guidance counselor, athletic director, and coach.
Tedisco also noted that his appointment to the Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation Committee is important to the 44th Senate District which is a tourist mecca in Upstate New York as it’s home to the Saratoga Race Course, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), Proctors Theatre, Saratoga National Historical Park and Battlefield, Saratoga Casino and Hotel, Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, the gateway to New York’s canals in Waterford, Saratoga Spa State Park, Moreau Lake State Park, the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga Automobile Museum, National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame, National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame, and MiSci Museum of Innovation in Schenectady, among many other tourist destinations.
