$17-Million Grant for Upgrades at Southtowns Wastewater Treatment Facility

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) announces grants have been awarded for several water infrastructure projects in the 60th NYS Senate District. Funding for these projects and dozens more across the state come from New York’s Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) program, the Intermunicipal Grant (IMG) program and the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022, which was approved by voters.

The state is providing grants to local municipalities to help support water quality projects crucial to safeguarding public health, protecting the environment, and promoting economic development. The funding is projected to save local ratepayers an estimated $1.3 billion and create 24,000 jobs across the state.

“Every resident deserves access to clean and safe drinking water,” Senator Gallivan said.  “These investments help ensure the health and wellbeing of our communities, provide critical updates to our water and sewer systems, protect our environment and improve the quality of life of residents.”

Projects within the 60th Senate District include:

  • $17,000,000 to Erie County for upgrades and expansion of the Southtowns Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.
  • $5,000,000 to the Village of Hamburg for water tank upgrades.
  • $3,872,913 to the Town of West Seneca for sewer rehabilitation and repair.
  • $1,175,000 to the Town of Concord for Kissing Bridge and Craneridge project.
  • $550,000 to Village of Depew for system improvements.
  • $532,560 to Town of Alden for Cayuga Creek Water District expansion.

The grants are awarded by the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, in coordination with the Departments of Health and Environmental Conservation and are part of the State's effort to modernize aging water and sewer systems.
