Senator Mattera Honors Commack Athletes

Senator Mario R. Mattera (2nd Senate District) recently visited Commack High School to honor the successes of the school’s talented coaches and players.  

Senator Mattera celebrated the victories of the Commack Girls Volleyball team, who won the Suffolk County Class AAA Championship under Coach Tracie Morenberg, and the Commack Boys Cross Country team, who won the Suffolk County Championship under the guidance of Coach Paul Sleavensky.

As part of the special visit, Senator Mattera honored Coach Sleavensky for being name Coach of the Year by Newsday and volleyball players Maya Khan and Kaitlin Curran who were named to Newsday’s All-Long Island Team.

“I hope everyone of the players, their parents and their coaches is extremely proud of their accomplishments and congratulate them all.  Thank you to Superintendent Jordan Cox, Principal Carrie Lipenholtz and Athletic Director Pat Friel for their hospitality and help arranging this event. Go Cougars,” stated Senator Mattera.
