Senator Mario R. Mattera (2nd Senate District) reminds all students that the deadline to apply for scholarships from the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators is Friday, March 15. This group will award four scholarships of $3,000 each, split evenly between academic and athletic categories.
Scholarships are open to 2nd Senate District residents who are either current college students or high school seniors about to enter college. Students can access and complete the application online at https://www.nyiacsl.org/apply-for-scholarship-form.
"I am proud to work with my colleagues in the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators to offer this opportunity to our young leaders and hope all will apply. This is a great program for high school seniors and college students who have worked hard, distinguished themselves, and are intent on pursuing higher education to lead our state forward. With college costs continually rising, I encourage eligible students in my district to apply," stated Senator Mattera.
Applicants should have a grade point average of 85 or higher, be actively involved in community service and extracurricular activities, and demonstrate financial need. In addition to these qualifications, students applying for an athletic scholarship must also participate in organized sport(s).
Applicants need not be of Italian American heritage to apply.
Scholarship recipients will be announced in April, and the winners will be honored at a ceremony in Albany.
The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators, a bipartisan organization of state Assembly and Senate members, actively promotes and celebrates the state's Italian American community.
