Griffo encourages children to participate in summer reading program

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, today encouraged children and families in the 53rd Senate District to take part in the 2025 Summer Reading Program. The free program encourages children of all ages to read for fun and discovery all summer long.

This year’s theme is “Color Our World: Colorea Nuestro Mundo.” Those wishing to take part in this year’s program can do so by visiting griffo.nysenate.gov and clicking on the Summer Reading Program icon.

Parents and guardians can then enter their child’s name and information, along with the titles of the books they have read, on the online form. Families with homeschooled students should enter the school district in which they reside on the form.

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 22, 2025. Children who submit a completed form will receive an official Summer Reading Certificate recognizing their dedication and achievement.

“When school lets out for the summer, reading for many children often takes a backseat to other activities,” Sen. Griffo said. “However, reading is the foundation for everything we do in life, and it is important that children are encouraged to read throughout the year. I am pleased to be taking part in this year’s summer reading program and hope that it will help children throughout my district become more active and engaged readers.”

“I encourage everyone to visit their neighborhood library whenever they get the chance,” Sen. Griffo said. “New York's public libraries offer a variety of valuable and important resources and services to children, families, seniors and residents of communities across the state.”
