Griffo encourages New Yorkers to provide input on New York’s 2025 Draft Energy Plan

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo is encouraging New Yorkers to provide their input on the state’s 2025 Draft Energy Plan.

The State Energy Planning Board will use feedback it receives to develop the Final State Energy Plan, which will provide broad program and policy development direction to guide energy-related decision-making in the state and recommendations for meeting future energy demands through 2040.

“This is an important opportunity for New Yorkers to help shape the state’s energy future,” Sen. Griffo said. “Public feedback is essential to developing a balanced approach that reflects the needs and priorities of our communities. I hope that residents across New York will express their thoughts and make their voices heard.”

New Yorkers can read the draft plan by visiting https://energyplan.ny.gov/. Written comments can be submitted via the website and will be accepted through Oct. 6, 2025. Comments can also be emailed to nysenergyplan@nyserda.ny.gov (please include “comment” in your subject line) or mailed to:

In addition to written comments, several virtual and in-person public hearings are also taking place this month across the state. For more information those hearings, visit https://energyplan.ny.gov/Get-Involved/Hearings.

Public hearings are currently scheduled in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Poughkeepsie, Brooklyn, the Bronx and on Long Island. To provide more opportunities for New Yorkers to be a part of this process, Sen. Griffo is urging Gov. Kathy Hochul and the State Energy Planning Board to include additional public hearings in Central New York, the Mohawk Valley, the North Country and the Southern Tier.

“The residents of Central New York, the Mohawk Valley, the Southern Tier and the North Country face significant challenges due to rising energy costs,” Sen. Griffo wrote in a letter to Gov. Hochul and Doreen Harris, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) President and CEO and chair of the energy board, requesting additional public hearing locations. “They deserve to have the same opportunities to express themselves as others across the state.”

Dear Gov. Hochul:

I am writing to you regarding the public hearing schedule for the Draft 2025 Energy Plan that is being compiled by the New York State Energy Planning Board.

As you are likely aware, in-person public hearings are currently scheduled for Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Poughkeepsie, Brooklyn, the Bronx and on Long Island in the coming weeks.

While I recognize that there are opportunities for stakeholders to provide input through written comments or during statewide virtual sessions, I am concerned that there are no public hearings scheduled for Central New York, the Mohawk Valley, the Southern Tier and the North Country regions of the state.

To ensure that all New Yorkers are able to participate in this process and share their thoughts on the state’s draft energy plan, which should be your goal, I am asking you to consider additional in-person forums in these regions.

The residents of Central New York, the Mohawk Valley, the Southern Tier and the North Country face significant challenges due to rising energy costs. They deserve to have the same opportunities to express themselves as others across the state.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Joseph A. Griffo
New York State Senator, 53rd Senate District
