Griffo: Libraries in 53rd Senate District receive funding for construction and infrastructure projects

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo announced today that several public libraries in his district have been allocated funding for library construction and broadband infrastructure projects. The funds are from $44 million in capital funds provided in the FY2024-2025 State Budget. 

Libraries receiving funding in the 53rd Senate District include:  

 

  • Canastota Public Library (102 W. Center St., Canastota): $13,687 for a new security camera system that will be installed throughout the library’s interior and exterior.
  • Cazenovia Public Library (100 Albany St., Cazenovia): $240,809 for the renovation of the basement to waterproof and convert into climate-stable storage.
  • Dunham Public Library (76 Main St., Whitesboro): $200,548 to construct phase II of the second story expansion, replace AC unit in community rooms and security door alarms in the children and young adult areas.
  • Kirkland Town Library (55 ½ College St., Clinton): $47,707 to renovate an underutilized room for expanding collection space and installing energy efficient HVAC system in staff offices.
  • Mid York Library System (1600 Lincoln Ave., Utica): $16,655 to replace an aged HVAC rooftop unit and install an interior lighted exit sign with floodlights.
  • Oneida Public Library (459 Main St., Oneida): $12,351 for the installation and integration of an access control and intrusion alarm by Ever On/ADT to secure and protect staff areas from public access.
  • Prospect Free Library (116 Upper State St., Prospect): $12,750 to replace nine windows and install vinyl siding to the exterior of the building.
  • Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library (543 Sherrill Road, Sherrill): $53,846 to add a wider, energy-efficient powered entry door, efficient glazing, new exterior concrete paving and a free-standing library sign.
  • Utica Public Library (303 Genesee St., Utica): $511,594 to fully replace rear moat wall, railing, emergency exit stairwell and parking lot on the backside of the building.
  • Waterville Public Library (206 White St., Waterville): $6,069 for the installation of a touchless door opener on the side entrance to the library.

 

“Public libraries are critical spaces that offer a variety of important services and resources to children, families, seniors and residents in communities across the state,” Sen. Griffo said. “With this critical funding, libraries throughout my district will be able to make improvements and undertake projects that will enhance the services that they offer and help them to flourish for years to come.”
