
NY State Legislature Announces $8.5 Million in Funding to Queens Museum

QUEENS, NY — Today, New York State Senator Kristen Gonzalez joined Deputy Majority Leader Senator Gianaris, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and several elected colleagues on the Queens Delegation to announce a $8.5 Million capital investment in children’s programming and accessibility at the Queens Museum.
The announcement was followed by a tour of the project spaces led by Sally Tallant, President and Executive Director of the Queens Museum.
This investment will fund the Museum’s final phase of their capital project which includes:
- The creation of Queens’ first children’s museum for arts and culture, featuring classrooms, performance spaces, early childhood programs, and direct access to Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
New collection and archives galleries, an accessible auditorium for community use, artist-designed seating, and modernized infrastructure, including elevators and modular gallery ceilings.
Senator Kristen Gonzalez said, “Now more than ever we must uplift arts and culture, make it more accessible to families, and modernize programs and spaces to benefit everyone in our community. I’m proud to support this investment in arts education for future generations of Queens residents.”
Senate Deputy Leader Mike Gianaris said, “I am proud to work with my Senate and Assembly colleagues to provide the Queens Museum with $8.5 million for the creation of a new children’s museum, accessibility upgrades, additional gallery space, and so much more for New Yorkers to enjoy.”
An additional $500,000 in operating support will fund education initiatives, including school tours, summer camps, family workshops, and programs like Art Access for individuals with varying abilities and New Yorkers for immigrant communities.
