Funding Provided for Libraries in Clarence, Elma & Newstead

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) announces three libraries located in his New York State Senate district have been allocated funding through the State Aid for Library Construction Program. The funding will be used for building upgrades at public libraries in Clarence, Elma, and Newstead.

“Our public libraries provide services for residents of all ages and are valuable community assets,” Senator Gallivan said. “This funding will help ensure the buildings are up to date, efficient and safe for patrons and staff.”

Funding awards include:

Clarence Public Library - $49,161 to replace one of the library’s AC compressors and replace the boiler with an energy efficient unit.

Elma Public Library - $23,956 to replace the building’s HVAC system.

Newstead Public Library - $22,568 to remove and replace the existing fire system with a new system and equipment.

The funds are part of the $44 million in capital funds for public library construction and improvements included in this 2024-25 State Budget.

New York’s public libraries are in urgent need of renovation and upgrading. A recent survey showed a documented need for public library construction and renovation projects totaling more than $1.75 billion. More than a third of the over 1,000 public library buildings in communities across New York are 100+ years old.

In the FY2025-2026 State Budget, the Legislature provided $44 million for projects that will be announced in the Summer of 2026. This support for the State aid for Library Construction program recognizes the continued need for support for libraries statewide to provide essential services to New Yorkers.
