68 Names Added to Police Officers Memorial in Albany

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, (R-C, Elma) honored the lives of 68 law enforcement personnel who died in service to New York State at the Police Officers Memorial in Albany on Tuesday. Family members and friends of the fallen were on hand as the names were added to the black granite memorial, which now includes the names of 1,908 officers from local, state, and federal agencies.

“Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and affirm that we will never forget their service to their communities and their fellow New Yorkers,” Senator Gallivan said. “As a former Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County, I understand and appreciate the sacrifice and commitment that our law enforcement officers and their families make each and every day.”

Among those added to the memorial this year are the names of officers who died from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attack at the World Trade Center. More than 500 law enforcement representatives and others attended Tuesday’s ceremony.

Meanwhile, Senator Gallivan has sponsored a resolution (J.142) memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 11-17, 2025, as Police Week in the State of New York.
