Statement On The Closing of Cascades And More Than 120 Jobs Lost In Western New York

With the announced closing of Cascades, we are once again seeing the destructive results of Democrats' continued embracing of socialist policies like the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and the Green New Scam, despite glaring evidence it is obliterating our economy and devastating to our working families.
Representatives from Cascades attended a recent manufacturer’s roundtable meeting I hosted, and back in February they sounded the alarm on how disastrous rising energy costs are to their business model. Unfortunately, just a few months later they are saying one of the main reasons for closing is to focus on profitability - and that can’t happen here.
Unless Albany begins to take these warnings seriously and adopts more balanced, business-friendly reforms, we will see this unfortunate trend continue. The closing of Cascades, on the heels of the closure of the Sumitomo Plant, are the direct result of the Governor and her Democratic allies in the State Legislature embracing disastrous policies.
