Brooklyn, NY — On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Senator Roxanne J. Persaud hosted a powerful and informative webinar to raise awareness about period inequality—a critical issue affecting millions of individuals across New York and beyond. The virtual discussion brought together lawmakers and youth advocates to highlight the challenges surrounding menstrual equity and the urgent need for change.
Senator Persaud was joined by Senator Kristen S. Gonzalez and Senator Nathalia Fernandez, both vocal supporters of reproductive and social justice. The conversation also featured insightful remarks from Alisa Nudar, a high school senior who offered a youth perspective on the stigma, misinformation, and lack of access to menstrual products in schools and communities.
The discussion covered a range of topics, including the definition of period inequity, the lack of comprehensive menstrual education, barriers to accessing hygiene products, and policy-driven solutions to advance menstrual dignity.
“Period inequity is a public health issue, a gender equity issue, and an education issue. We cannot continue to let stigma and inaccessibility silence this conversation. I’m proud to stand with my colleagues and advocates to push for real solutions that ensure no one is left behind because of a natural bodily function,” said Senator Persaud.
As Chair of the Senate Social Services Committee, Senator Persaud continues to advocate for policies that expand access to menstrual products and invest in community education.
