Schenectady, NY--Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C-Ballston Lake) today announced a $1 million New York State grant he secured that helped build the new 40,000 square foot Adeline Wright Graham Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady facility.
Tedisco’s grant went toward the construction of the new Adeline Wright Graham facility, located at 104 Education Drive in Schenectady. Boys & Girls Club Members have use of a gymnasium, computer labs, theater, game rooms, and programs for education, the arts, health and wellness, workforce readiness, and character and leadership building.
The grant Senator Tedisco secured also has enabled the Boys and Girls to provide enhanced mental health services, counseling and behavioral health support for the young people who need it most. This has made it possible for the Boys and Girls Club to significantly improve care for neurodivergent youth as well as critical assistance for children with severe learning and behavioral challenges.
The Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady serves 11,800 youths annually and 130 kids utilize this new facility every day.
Senator Tedisco’s connection to the Boys & Girls Club goes back way before he served in the state legislature, to when he was a young member of the Rotterdam Boys & Girls Club and was even honored as the Club’s 1963 “Youth of the Year” (“Golden Boy” as it was known back then).
“The Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady is a very special place that gives a helping hand to kids and sets them on the path to personal success. I know first-hand how important this organization is because I practically grew up going to the Boys & Girls Club and it was one of the foundations of my life when I was a kid. I am so honored and proud that I was able to secure and successfully fight to get funded and return to taxpayers in Schenectady this $1 million state grant for this beautiful new Boys & Girls Club facility that will offer young people a safe place to go after school where they can learn, grow and help set them on a path for success!” said Senator Jim Tedisco.
“I want to thank Senator Jim Tedisco for his leadership and support of the Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady over the years and for this $1 million state grant that will help us continue to keep all the kids who take part in our programs doing positive things and learning and growing so they can develop into amazing citizens,” said Shane Bargy, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady.
