Senator Cooney Announces $150,000 NYS Grant for Town of Gates Lions Park

(GATES, NY) - Today, Senator Jeremy Cooney (D-Rochester), announced he secured a $150,000 capital grant for the Town of Gates Lions Park. This grant will go towards the construction of an updated playground, and additional outdoor restrooms. These improvements will expand publicly accessible, safe, multi-use recreation spaces and strengthen their infrastructure to better serve all members of the community.
“Lions Park is a place where friends, families, and neighbors come together, and every visitor deserves a welcoming and accessible park that reflects the pride of this community,” said Senator Jeremy Cooney. “Whether it’s a family reunion, a Lions Club meeting, or an afternoon walking group, it’s a place of community connection. I’m proud to make this investment and help ensure residents and visitors can experience all that Gates has to offer for generations to come.”

The updated playground, and new standalone restroom facilities will strengthen our park’s infrastructure and help us better serve families, community groups, and visitors for years to come. Lions Park has always been a place where our community comes together, and this support ensures it will continue to be a welcoming destination for future generations.”
Lions Park spans more than 14 acres and serves thousands of residents and visitors each year. The park offers year-round use of their enclosed shelter and hosts a variety of recreational activities for all ages, including walking paths, tennis courts, a basketball court, and a playground. The shelter is available for birthday and graduation parties, community meetings, family reunions, and more.
Each summer, Lions Park hosts a youth Summer Camp Program and a Sports Camp through Gates Recreation and Parks. The renovations will expand opportunities for all ages and abilities, and enhance the overall visitor experience.
