(Binghamton, NY)- Today, Senator Lea Webb (SD52) announced that Broome County will receive over $7 million in funding from the State's Regional Economic Development Council (REDC). Funding through these various state agency programs is designed to help boost economic growth, including $100 million in Pro-Housing Supply Fund awards to jump-start housing growth, and over $60 million in Regional Council Capital Fund awards to implement each region’s strategic plan.

“I’m proud to support investments that align with the needs and priorities of our Southern Tier communities,” said Senator Webb. “This funding represents a meaningful commitment to Broome County’s future by expanding housing opportunities, strengthening infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and promoting sustainable growth. These REDC investments will revitalize neighborhoods and ensure our region remains a place where families can succeed for generations to come.”

Broome County received the following funding through the State's Regional Economic Development Council (REDC):

  • $6,289,000 for Broome County to complete an infrastructure project to enable construction of a residential development on 10.67 acres in Johnson City. This funding is through the Pro Housing Supply Funds Program (ESD PHSF).
  • $500,000 for the City of Binghamton to support the complete renovation of a 3-story, 6,200 square foot mixed-use building at 121 Court Street, building on its efforts to revitalize critical anchors and address vacancies. This funding is through the New York Main Street (NYMS) program.
  • $200,700 for the City of Binghamton to pursue an area planning initiative for two key corridors of the city, resulting in clearly identified redevelopment priorities to encourage compact, mixed-use development and a plan for enhanced bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
  • $90,000 for the Town of Chenango to update its 2015 comprehensive plan to incorporate concepts related to sustainability, climate change adaptation, and smart growth for the community over the next 10 to 20-year planning cycle. This funding is through the Climate Smart Communities Program (DEC CSC).
