Griffo statement on bill that would harm state’s dairy industry

Cows
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, released the following statement today regarding proposed legislation that would be detrimental to small, family-owned dairy farms in New York, especially those upstate:

“This preposterous bill limiting cows on farms is another example of politicians from downstate and New York City thinking they know what’s best for upstate farms, businesses and communities.

Under the leadership of the Democratic majorities in the Legislature, we have seen more and more onerous regulations, burdensome mandates, problematic policies and flawed initiatives that do more harm than good.

This proposal would continue this troubling trend and would hurt small and family-owned farms and agribusinesses, especially those that are already struggling in Upstate New York.

Additionally, I am concerned about the potential negative impact this bill could have on businesses like Chobani, which is expected to require millions of pounds of milk to make its products.

The legislative majorities continue to make things more difficult for our farms and agribusinesses to survive. We should be cutting regulations, taxes and energy costs to ensure that these entities have every opportunity to grow, thrive and prosper.”
