One of my top legislative priorities is criminal justice reform. Not only is the movement to end America's mass incarceration crisis a moral one, it is an economic one as well. This is why I introduced bill S5433, which prohibits NY State Chartered Banks from financing private prisons. Yesterday, the New York Senate did the right thing by voting to pass my bill. New York should not allow state chartered banks to profit from locking people up. It is immoral and furthers the crisis. I am proud of our New York State Senate for voting to put #PeopleOverProfit and to #EndMassIncarceration.
