Cecilia Tkaczyk was sworn in today as State Senator from the 46th Senate District and vowed to provide the residents of Albany, Greene, Montgomery, Schenectady and Ulster Counties with strong, full-time representation.
“This is a very humbling experience, and I thank the voters and many volunteers who generously offered their time and support to help elect me,” Senator Tkaczyk said. “I ran for office to ensure all residents of the 46th Senate District have access to the good paying jobs, well-protected environment, equal treatment and responsive, progressive government they deserve.”
Tkaczyk was sworn in by Supreme Court Judge Christine Clark and was joined by her husband, Eric, their son Peter and Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
Senate Democratic Conference Leader Stewart-Cousins said, “Senator Tkaczyk has shown herself to be a hard-working public servant with a deep understanding of the challenges we face in New York. She will help us to develop and implement initiatives to rejuvenate the economy, reform our campaign finance laws and fight for women’s health and equality.”
Deputy Senate Democratic Leader Michael Gianaris said, "It was a pleasure getting to know Cecilia during her campaign and I am thrilled that we are now colleagues. She is exactly the type of principled progressive legislator we need in the State Senate to move New York in the right direction. Congratulations to Cecilia and thank you to the people of the 46th District who elected her."
Senator Tkaczyk’s regional colleague, Senator Neil Breslin said, “Cecilia Tkaczyk distinguished herself during a hard- fought campaign with an exceptional work ethic and extensive knowledge of the issues that are important to the people of New York State. She will be an excellent representative for the people of the 46th District and I look forward to working with her in the senate."
Senator Tkaczyk said she has hit the ground running, and is prepared to serve her constituents and fight for a “common sense, progressive agenda to create jobs, stabilize property taxes and secure our fair share of school aid.”
In addition to kick-starting the upstate economy, Senator Tkaczyk’s top priorities also include supporting women’s healthcare, protecting the region’s magnificent natural resources and reforming our campaign finance system.
“Upstate New Yorkers have been crying out for common-sense solutions to the problems plaguing this region and state. I am honored to serve as the elected representative of the 46th Senate District, and will work tirelessly to continue to earn the trust the voters have placed in me,” Senator Tkaczyk concluded.
