Public Hearing: Protecting Consumer Data and Privacy on Online Platforms
Senator Kevin Thomas (D-Levittown) led a public hearing on Friday, November 22 to conduct discussion on online privacy and the role of the New York State Legislature in its oversight.
New Yorkers are concerned about how their personal information is being collected and used on online platforms. Despite a rising number of data breaches and data-sharing scandals, there are currently no adequate federal laws protecting data privacy, forcing individual states to take action to protect their residents. The hearing will focus on gathering input from experts and stakeholders on potential legislative solutions that will protect the online privacy of New York residents.
