Senator Kevin Thomas Speaks on His Legislation to Combat Housing Discrimination

Senator Kevin Thomas, together with the New York State Senate Majority, voted to advance major legislation to continue addressing housing discrimination across New York State. The legislation is the product of a year-long joint investigation into evidence of unequal treatment, steering, and bias directed at minority homebuyers and minority communities on Long Island uncovered in a 2019 Newsday report entitled 'Long Island Divided.' The measures passed included legislation sponsored by Senator Kevin Thomas that would increase penalties for fair housing and human rights violations, and require that associate brokers acting as office managers are held to the same standards as licensed real estate brokers.
